The Royal Cambridge Hotel fought off competition from several the city’s hotels to land the bronze award in the recent Cambridge BID Awards.
The annual event is in its sixth year and took place at St John’s College with awards handed out in a variety of categories to businesses in the city. Six Cambridge hotels were shortlisted in the Overnight Accommodation category following a series of mystery guest visits to hotels in the city.
The mystery guest visit, conducted by Storecheckers commented on their stay: “The room was exceptionally clean and well laid out, as was the bathroom. The staff were, I felt, very professional in their interaction.”
Despite the glowing praise, The Royal Cambridge Hotel narrowly missed out to eventual winners, Hotel Du Vin. Stewart Rushton, General Manager of The Royal Cambridge Hotel was pleased nonetheless with the bronze award and subsequent positive comments. He said: “Naturally, we’re disappointed not to win but being nominated for an award of this nature just shows how far we’ve come in the past few years.
“To be rubbing shoulders with the other big named hotels in this category is very pleasing. Likewise, I’m delighted with the fantastic comments made about the hotel team and cleanliness of our bedrooms.
“We’re already working hard at how we can improve – that’s already started with staff training and hopefully we’ll go one, or two, better next year.”
